Identity Attributes and KYC: the transition to eIDAS 2.0 and AMLR

Τhe GRIDS and eIB projects organized the GRIDS-eIB Workshop on "Identity Attributes and KYC: the transition to eIDAS 2.0 and AMLR" which took place virtually on Thursday 16 September 2021 from 2:00-5:00 pm CET.

Here you can find more details.

Goals & Objectives

The latest policy developments in the area of remote identity management and KYC has created the need to identify critical technology needs and design principles for emerging decentralized technologies.

Τhe workshop considered the need of policy makers and stakeholders to understand the ongoing shifting landscape as a result of the increasing digitization of the financial and regulation sector (Fintech, Regtech) while focusing on practical cases bundling eID with KYC and other attributes and assets.

The objectives of the workshop were, but not limited to:

  • Explain to the broader community GRIDS and eIB projects main outcomes (both are funded by the European Commission, through CEF Telecom), and report on the projects’ objectives and achievements until now, and receive feedback.
  • Showcase the potential use of EU eID, and the upcoming EU common eID, in the KYC industry, in the light of the thriving customer digital onboarding processes and remote KYC practices, the opportunities and constraints introduced by the new AMLR Regulation package, and the potential bottlenecks the two projects identify and study in detail,
  • Present the latest EU policy trends as far as the standardization of a minimum KYC facility is regarded and beyond (Central Banks Digital Currency/CBDC, adaptation of KYC/AML guidelines to the needs of remote identification, verification and KYC).
